Risk & Reward

We’re committed to providing you 24+ varieties of fresh (not dried) medicinal herbs over the next six months. By joining this CSA program and becoming a part of our farm community, you share in the risks and rewards of agriculture. We promise to provide you with a bountiful share of the best medicine available in season each month, but the exact variety or quantity of herbs may sometimes vary from month to month due to unpredictable conditions such as weather, insects or other production factors. By sharing risk, you also share in the reward when there is an abundance of what does well! There are a couple contingency plans to ensure you receive the full value of the subscription and get at least 24 varieties. Luckily, things have always worked out.

We will do our best to communicate what you can expect, and to give you something new and unique each month.

Herb Profiles

We are getting close to having a profile for every herb on the farm. When we don't have a full write up, you can expect a densely informative paragraph to give you a taste of what the herb has to offer. We encourage you to do additional research with all herbs - it's always good to get a second opinion, and we will suggest a few places we like to refer to in our personal practice.

The profiles are NOT medical advice. The FDA has not evaluated the claims therein and our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. They are the opinions of the authors based on personal experience and research. We always recommend that you do your own research, and dive in tentatively when working with a new herb.

Picking up your share

Please show up during the time given. If you show up late your share will become property of the host. If you know you will be unable to pick up your share, you can send someone else to pick it up.

Shares will all contain the same amounts and variety of herbs. Please don’t browse the shares, don’t open anyone else’s bag (yes, this has happened!).

Put these dates in your calendar, give yourself ample reminders. Pickups are far enough apart that it is easy to forget, and we really want you to get your herbs, all of them!

Communication

The best way to reach us is by email at RootDiggerHerbFarm@gmail.com. If you do not receive an email response in a timely manner, or have an urgent question, you may contact Ben directly by texting or calling (number provided in welcome email).

Please get in touch with us if there are any changes in your contact information, if you will miss a distribution day, or if you have any questions or concerns about your membership. 

When you sign up for a CSA membership, we will add you to our mailing list. You will receive an orientation email containing the above information before the first distribution date. You will also receive a brief CSA Newsletter each month of the season with details about the upcoming share and plant profiles. Please be sure to read email communications as they may contain important reminders or instructions. We also distribute a quarterly farm update.

By signing up you agree to complete a short end-of-season questionnaire. This helps us continue to provide herbs in a way that fits community needs. 

Payment

Our sliding scale is how we provide accessibility to a greater portion of our community. Paying more or less will not affect the contents of your subscription. Your contribution, whatever you are able to offer, is greatly appreciated.

We would be happy to receive your payment by check as this saves us from paying payment processing fees. Please contact us at the email under the heading "Communication" above for instructions on paying by check.

Live Herb Chat

We are excited to soft launch a casual monthly video chat to discuss the herbs offered each month. The timing and content of this offer will be informed by what participants are needing but expect will likely come on Friday or Saturday of delivery week. Disclaimer: this is offered tentatively and without increasing the cost of the CSA with the understanding that we may not have time or energy to host every month.

Hildegard Blessings

Root Digger is partnering with Hildegard Ferments & Botanicals to bring CSA members classes, discounts, and special offers throughout the season. Their collection of apothecary goods and place-based, botanical brews will be available for pre-order and pickup with CSA shares.
